Savory Italian Pork Sausage

This Italian sausage is perfect for pasta, omelets, or as a pizza topping.  If you prefer a spicy sausage, add additional red pepper flakes to taste.  If time permits, mix the sausage and store in the refrigerator for a few hours and up to a day before cooking to allow the flavors to meld.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed star anise

Method

Step 1

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Place mixture in a medium-sized frying pan. Crumble and brown the meat on medium heat.
