Fresh Low Sodium Pizza Sauce

This pizza sauce is fresh, easy, and delicious. In addition to pizza, it makes a great dipping sauce for garlic bread. No need to remove the skins on the tomatoes in this recipe, making it a snap to cook. Look for a tomato paste that is low in sodium. We used a tomato paste with 20 mg sodium in a two tablespoon serving.
Ingredients
- 4 medium ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1 can low sodium tomato paste
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small yellow onion, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon white sugar
Method
Step 1
Saute the garlic and onion in olive oil over medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
Step 2
Add tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 5-6 minutes. Add dry spices.
Step 3
Stir in tomato paste. Remove from heat. Allow to cool slightly before using.
